Meet Maureen

Maureen Doherty (1).mov

Maureen has called Mansfield home since 1985 when she moved here from Boston with her husband, Bill, and one year-old son, Billy.  Since then the family has grown to include a daughter, Kelly, a daughter-in-law Caitlin, six grandchildren, five of which are attending Mansfield Schools a two-year-old entering preschool, two dogs, Elsa and Sully.   Considering herself a lifelong learner, Maureen went back to school after her children graduated college and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in management and finance from Newbury College.  Maureen went on to complete a Certificate in Construction Project Management from Northeastern University as well as a Graduate Certificate in Local Government and Leadership from Sawyer School of Business at Suffolk University.

Upon arriving in Mansfield, Maureen immediately immersed herself in the community.  The Town of Mansfield Recreation Department offered a new program for a Mom and Tots playgroup that met on Mansfield Common where Maureen made friends and got involved in the department.   The Doherty’s were often seen enjoying the softball league and the playground at Memorial Park. It was through these early activities that Maureen was introduced to local government.

Maureen began her career and volunteerism in municipal government as a part-time minute’s clerk for the Mansfield Recreation Department where she recorded the official record and votes of the Recreation Commission.   Recreation offered many opportunities to get involved.  Maureen often volunteered at many of the programs such as the craft fair, the duck race, summer camp, roller blade hockey and the Halloween Parade.

Continuing to work part time, Maureen frequently provided coverage in many of the Town’s Departments.  Maureen spent nearly 10 years working for the Municipal Building Committee (MBC) where she provided construction administration services.   This was the busiest time in the history of the MBC and the Town for Construction.  Maureen was involved in the four town and three school projects.  The municipal projects included: the renovation and addition of the “new” Town Hall on Park Row, the conversion of 50 West Street to a modern police station, the new construction of a fire station on Plymouth Street and modifications to the North Main Street Fire Station.  The school projects included additions and renovations to the Robinson, Qualters and High Schools.  At the time Mansfield was finishing up with the Jordan Jackson School and the New Library and Council on Aging Buildings.

Working for the MBC provided Maureen with a great opportunity for a new career in construction.   Maureen work for the Town of Sharon as the Commonwealth’s first female, Owner’s Project Manager and oversaw several school projects as well the renovations at the Sharon Community Center.  However, as projects were completed Maureen was faced with a lay-off.  Maureen is resilient and continued her career in public service at the State level for the Department of Correction (DOC).  Maureen returned to local government at the Town of Stoughton where she served as the Chief Procurement Officer.

Having a passion for construction, Maureen continues to serve as a member of the Municipal Building Committee.

Maureen provides municipal consulting services to several communities in Massachusetts.
